Nikau Foundation Corporate Challenge

The Nikau Foundation Corporate Challenge is where volunteers from a number of businesses and government departments give a day to complete a project in their local community.

It is sponsored by Nikau Foundation, the community foundation for the greater Wellington region. Judy Kerr at Volunteer Wellington acts as coordinator.

The Foundation receives funding from generous donors, and invests the income only in worthwhile community projects. This makes it possible for over 50 community projects to take place in Wellington, Porirua and the Hutt Valley during the February to June period each year. In 2011 the Foundation funded the Corporate Challenge on behalf of the R & D Evans Trust.

Volunteer Wellington needs the support of as many Wellington region businesses as possible to make this happen. Volunteer for a day and work for local community groups on projects ranging from painting to planting. The projects are varied and your company can choose the project to suit your objectives.

Not only do local community groups benefit from the expertise and good will of the business volunteers, but businesses also benefit from team building experiences, learning new skills, and extending overall knowledge about their communities.

Volunteer Wellington is proud to work with the Challenge's sponsor, Nikau Foundation. Nikau Foundation charitable trust is the community foundation for the greater Wellington region. It encourages generosity and makes it easy for people to give to their local community.

What does the Foundation do?

This is a cost-effective alternative to establishing a private charitable trust.

One gift through Nikau is invested, with the income given out on behalf of the donor to their preferred charities, every year, forever.

The Foundation's trustees are Kevin O'Connor, Ian Cassels, Richard Caughley, Chris Milne, Terry Nowland, Graeme Sinclair, Gus van de Roer and Celia Wade-Brown.

Donating through Nikau Foundation
The concept of gift-giving and leaving bequests to a home community is comparatively new in New Zealand but is becoming increasingly popular as people learn about community foundations.

The Nikau Foundation is very happy to discuss how it can help businesses and individuals to realise their charitable aims, by donating to the Wellington region through a named fund for them or their business.
